ALIVE AND SHINING
We can live in life itself. Life is never an abstraction. Life is ultimately a person. Life is God and in particular Jesus Christ. One can be alive in His life by choice. We can invite Him to be our life. Since the manifestation of life is Jesus Christ and we are incarnated with Him - the manifestation of life is also you. This is the difference between religion and eating life. He said, ‘Those who eat me will live because of me.’
It follows that an identity in this person, this Jesus, this son of God in us, is different and superior to any identity in religion. Don’t be fooled by choosing the road most travelled. People wear their religious identity when it is important to them. The fact that this is who they are and they have declared it as so indicates that it is more important than it should be. More important than is wise because we cannot have two masters, two husbands or two identities in the existential sphere. Jesus did not say, ‘I and Judaism are one.’ He said ‘I and my Father are one,’ for a reason. Let it be so with you.
Some live from revelation and flourish accordingly. Others are contained in old and erroneous ideas that Satan has used to rob them of vitality. The live in dullness of spiritual perception that occurs when our hearts are seeking the approval of God through our own efforts or when we remain bound to some kind of ‘law’ or performance orientation OR SOME EXTRA IDENTITY.
Paul wrote of two identities. One of the slave woman and one of the free woman. The latter is our post cross, in Jesus identity. The former is our identity in Adam, Moses, the law and the realm Jesus has delivered us from.
‘These things are being taken figuratively: The women represent two covenants. One covenant is from Mount Sinai and bears children who are to be slaves: This is Hagar’ Gal 4.24 NIV.
Under the law we are slaves in our spirit and suffer frequently illness of soul. It’s possible that we are more vulnerable to physical disease, since we are insulated to a degree from our new testament life in the Spirit. Some labour as children of the slave woman through no fault of their own, having been taught to live from a Christian performance mentality. Others do so out of obstinacy, a need for approval and status and the possession of a religious identity. Others because they have been genuinely blinded by the religion into which they have been born.
‘But what does Scripture say? "Get rid of the slave woman and her son, for the slave woman's son will never share in the inheritance with the free woman's son’ Gal 4.30 NIV.
Whatever the case, the outcome is Kingdom dullness, perpetuated spiritual blindness and religious torpor masquerading as the life of God – all this using leaky buckets that can carry little water. So what do you do in such circumstances?
Never (unless Jesus says go) vacate the arena of God’s endeavor in favour of those who insist on their new covenant cubicle. Don’t be intimidated by those who talk the Spirit and live the letter. Never submit out of politeness to those who have less spiritual discernment than you do. To do so is to betray Jesus and innocent people who are not as able as you.
Keeping in mind that our weapons are not carnal, our attack will be love, intercession and living the Spirit rather than engaging in the spirit of debate - unless Jesus specifically tells us to speak. Jesus confronted darkness with words and being the truth. As we live, move and have our being in the Son, it will be evident to the searching soul that we are the sons and daughters of God and as such harbingers of the upwelling of His infinite life.
‘Whoever has will be given more, and they will have an abundance. Whoever does not have, even what they have will be taken from them’ Matt 13.12 NIV.
