What Counts is a New Creation

Jesus lived totally in the Spirit. To believe that He lived from the law and under the law is a nonsense when He clearly lived from His Father.

Jesus and His Father were one and He manifested His Father’s life as a son. In Jesus we manifest Father’s life in the Spirit of Sonship.

Our sons and daughters are analogous to but not identical to sons and daughters of God in the Spirit. Physically our children are like us because they came from us. They are our flesh and blood yet unique in themselves.

The Christ was begotten of His Father not in time but in ‘being.’ As humans we were begotten of the trinity according to a plan. This plan, that God would have sons and daughters incorporated the foreknowledge of the fall and undoing of the fall in Jesus, the Second Adam. The rising of human kind has been secured in the cross and the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

As sons of God we were birthed by God. But in our new birth we differ from our children in that our new person comes forth in the Spirit. This is as simple as Christ becoming us. It’s what Paul is talking about in Romans eight. It’s new because Adam is God and Christ becomes our life – literally and by the Spirit. John called it Christ come in the flesh, which means the person of Jesus manifests by the spirit as you.

As a son in the Spirit you are a manifestation of Father and your real self. None who live from the externalities of the world or the shroud of religion will ever become their true selves in this life. People can have a successful career yet never make it as the real self because they have lived as their false self in externalities. Similarly we can live in law and religion and be the same – a husk of our real selves and something less than sons in spirit and in truth.

The new birth, births us into fellowship with God and in particular union with our Father. This union in the Spirit is an interwoveness that is as close as Jesus’ interwoveness with Father and Holy Spirit. There is no separation between us an God in the new testament age. Many Believers need to stop living in it as though it is ‘godliness.’

Jesus urged us to realise our true state of interwoveness with God because in embracing this union that is ours, we bring pleasure to our Father and glory to ourselves: Glory by being and ceaselessly becoming who we are. There is nothing ephemeral about life in the Spirit. Christ come in ‘your you’ the burning bush that is your real self in everyday life.

If the law or religion has displaced Christ come in our flesh, it is a drawing a long bow to insist that we belong to the Body of Christ. Notionally yes but not in spirit and in truth.

‘I say this because many deceivers, who do not acknowledge Jesus Christ as coming in the flesh, have gone out into the world. Any such person is the deceiver and the antichrist’ 2 John 1.7 NIV.
