The living word is a being. Not a construct of words. There’s more to the words Christ your life than a statement of religion. It’s a statement of being indicating your belonging in the Communion that is God. If you were trained to see the law as the issue of the universe you were trained wrongly. The trinity is the issue of the universe and our interwoveness in this Communion that is God.

The trinity in many minds is some kind of a smudge or blur. It is actually three persons, one God. Irenaeus wrote, “This is the rule of our faith, the foundation of the building, and what gives support to our behavior.

God the Father uncreated, who is uncontained, invisible, one God, creator of the universe; this is the first article of our faith.

And the second is: The Word of God, the Son of God, our Lord Jesus Christ, who appeared to the prophets according to their way of prophesying and according to the dispensation of the Father. Through him all things were created. Furthermore, in the fullness of time, in order to gather all things to himself, he became a human being amongst human beings, capable of being seen and touched, to destroy death, bring life, and restore fellowship between God and humanity.

And the third article is: The Holy Spirit, through whom the prophets prophesied, and our forebears learned of God and the righteous were led in the paths of justice, and who, in the fullness of time, was poured out in a new way on our human nature in order to renew humanity throughout the entire world in the sight of God.”

God is mediated to us by God, which is to say that God reaches out in Jesus Christ to enfold us in Godself.

As a youth I did not realise that the fullness of the God-Head was woven into me in the oneness that God had secured for me in Jesus Christ. Not a few think they have a relationship with God because they does one or two or several iconic ‘sanctified behaviours’ held dear by their church. Of course one can have a relationship adhering to denominational icons but it’s a very meagre one. Such paucity is scandalous when our inheritance is the trinity woven into our being and our being woven into God’s Family.

There is an inheritance that has been ours since Jesus cried, ‘It is finished!’ ‘On that day you will realize that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you’ John 14.20.

You have oneness with God and in this oneness you are privy to a continued revelation of who God is and who you are. God is with you in life and God is your life. Jesus Christ is fully God being one with Father and He lives by the Spirit in you.

God is not an abstraction called the law. “It is only because God has revealed himself to us through Christ and in the Spirit that we can speak about God […] Here the homoousion is utterly decisive and revolutionary in Torrance’s mind, for it expresses the supreme evangelical truth of the Gospel that God is the content of what God is towards us in God’s love and grace, what God has done and continues to do for us in Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit.” (1) The nature of God is God’s salvation in our lives. The union enjoyed by God as the trinity is your union with God.

Every kind of separation mentality is a fragment of the fall perpetuated into our post-cross life.

We will do better when we construct our reality out of who God is rather than persist in a life-long bid to manufacture a god in the image of our private or denominational presuppositions. The former will deliver us abundant life. The latter land us in the same kind of folly as the climate change denier. We will pursue a reality that is not real.
